We decided to continue our sightseeing of Barcelona over to Sagrada Familia, a church built by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi.
We strolled along Passeig de Gracia past the coolest door knocker and a sad reminder of what’s going on in the world. A sea of white tents lined up on the cobblestone streets greeted us so we decided to take a look.
Stall upon stall of the most incredible homemade culinary creations greeted us. Everything from chocolate dipped macaroons to rosemary encased sopressata to infused olive oil was offered by the kindest Spanish vendors.
Glistening apple tart, fresh donuts, and black truffle infused cheese perfumed our path, making it nearly impossible to resist stopping at every tent.
I settled on a bag of these homemade gummies, free of anything artificial, and in the brightest flavors and colors imaginable. I swear the pear one was like biting into a fresh piece of fruit.
We passed this hoot of a building on the way to Sagrada Familia, but were sorely disappointed when we found out construction was being done on this beautiful church. I took a few pictures, but the scaffolding and cranes around it just didn’t do it the justice it deserves.
I decided to cheer myself up with a homemade churro from a hole-in-the-wall Xurreria. There are no words for how incredible this was. It was the most perfectly crisp pastry dough, smothered in cinnamon sugar, and with a silken interior filled with, you guessed it, Nutella. I may or may not have gotten two.
As we kept going the discoveries got better and better. Cue homemade mojitos:
We got lured into this tent while walking home, and learned that it was a pop up bar put on by students of a bar-tending school in Barcelona. They only served three drinks: gin or vodka and tonic, and a mojito. We picked the mojitos and watched as the muy guapo bartender crafted up these beauties.
After the obligatory ‘Salud!’ we immediately ordered another round of these tart and minty cocktails.
We sat at a rickety table watching kids playing, guitars strumming, and people laughing, while thinking life doesn’t get any better than this.
Unfortunately our perfect moment was put on hold when it started to thunder, so we raced home and got ready to go to a club called Razzmatazz.
The club didn’t open until 1 am, and didn’t start getting packed until 3, which is so weird to get used to when in D.C. last call is 1:30!
In honor of Steven’s birthday, I had to include this gem. He’s on the far right, and was clearly having the time of his life;)
The club was loud, packed, and blaring music on each of the 5 floors. It was unlike any place I’ve ever been, and if you’re ever in Barcelona I definitely recommend it!
